🌿 Living Between the Lines: Navigating Life with POTS and MCAS

🌿 Living Between the Lines: Navigating Life with POTS and MCAS

Some days, it starts with a flutter. A racing heart when I stand, a wave of heat, a fog thick enough to forget why I walked into the room. Other days, it’s an itchy throat, a flush creeping across my skin, a sudden reaction to food I’ve eaten a hundred times before.

This is the delicate dance of living with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) and MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome),two conditions that often go hand in hand, yet few talk about.

🌬 The Body That Won’t Stay Still

POTS is more than a fast heartbeat. It’s dizziness, fatigue, nausea, brain fog, and a nervous system that sometimes forgets how to regulate the basics—like standing upright. For many of us, the simple act of getting out of bed is a daily summit.

Pair that with MCAS, where the immune system throws out chemical flares at the wrong time—foods, smells, even stress can spark symptoms, and suddenly the world becomes a little too loud, a little too bright, and far too unpredictable.

🌿 Listening to the Body’s Whispers

Both conditions taught me to slow down and listen deeply. My body isn’t against me—it’s speaking in a language I’m still learning. Every symptom is a signal. Every flare, a message.

It’s why I turned to natural living, herbs, and gentle nourishment. Not to “cure” myself, but to build a softer, safer place to land.

🍃 What Helps Me Feel Human Again

Over time, I’ve found that small, consistent shifts bring the biggest relief:

    •    Low-histamine, whole-foods eating / homemade meals with care, avoiding preservatives and additives

    •    Herbal allies like quercetin, nettle, and ginger (gentle antihistamines and inflammation tamers)

    •    Daily grounding rituals – breathwork, foot baths, time in nature, and keeping my nervous system soothed

    •    Electrolytes without junk , my lifeline on dizzy days(I have a link for a good brand)

    •    Reading labels like it’s a love language – because sulfites, artificial dyes, and hidden triggers matter

🌾 You’re Not Alone Here

If you’re walking this same road, please know: your symptoms are real. You’re not crazy. And healing isn’t linear—but it’s possible to build a life that feels beautiful again, even in the mess.

I created Sandrock’s Cottage & Apothecary out of this journey—not just to offer remedies, but to create a space where we don’t have to mask our sensitivities or explain them away.

You deserve softness. You deserve support. And you deserve to feel well in your body again.

Gentle tip: If you’re new to MCAS or POTS and feel overwhelmed, start with hydration, keep a food/symptom journal, and reach out to others on this path. And if you ever need a calming tea, a low-histamine herbal remedy, or just a friend in the fog—my door is always open.

With heart,

Lacey 🤍
